Some thoughts about Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1

What created the craziest Green Lantern of the universe?

Bruce Wayne felt a void after the death of his parents that couldn't be filled and not even the strongest weapon in the universe can help.

Well, I was pretty right by not expecting anything from this.

Sam Humphries delivers a new tie-in where they focus on the Green Lantern version of Batman from the Dark Multiverse and is not great. Mind you, Humphries doesn't implement his usual stupid sense of humour (aside from some really silly lines) but instead tries to tell the story of a Bruce Wayne who suddenly became a psycho killer after the death of his parents but I don't buy it. Yes, different universes and all that but I still feel like things happened to quickly and his insanity occurred overnight to the point that is simply unrealistic which is something that I should have predicted considering how simple Humpries' characterization tends to be.

That's not the only problem though since as a story it doesn't really work either. Is way too shallow and doesn't go beyond the demented portrayal that Bruce receives here, not even the alternate versions of other characters from Gotham are portrayed in an interesting manner. Humphries' writing is pretty bland when he's not trying to force his "comedic" tone.

Ethan Van Sciver's artwork is pretty good on the other hand with a great attention to detail and makes the scenes much better than they actually are.

Just skip this, is simply not worthy.
