Some thoughts about Batwoman: Rebirth #1

Who is Batwoman?

Kate Kane has been fighting her whole life after the tragic events that took her mother and sister. Now, she's willing to fight along Batman but the future might have other plans for her.

Well, this is a Rebirth issue all right.

James Tynion IV and Marguerite Bennett open the new Batwoman volume by, guess what, yet another retelling of Batwoman's origin. At this point there have been as many flashbacks to Kate's past as Bruce's but the difference is that the latter don't happen so frequently these days. To be honest, the issue is mostly a retelling of several events that people who are familiar with the character will recognize and there's nothing really new about them.

That being said, the writers still portray Kate decently and her portrayal is still likable. Plus, there are a few teasers about a big change in the future. Mind you, this might be some sort of Futures End story but let's see where it goes.

Steve Epting handles the artwork and is pretty solid and adequate for the gothic style that has characterized Batwoman for so long.

Not bad, not great, hope the following issues are more promising.
