Some thoughts about The Fall and Rise of Captain Atom #1

Captain Atom's suffering is finally going to stop.

Nate has finally caused what he has been fearing all this time and to prevent it from happening again, he's ready to let go everything he is.

This marks the return of classic Captain Atom writer, Cary Bates, to the character. For those who don't know, Bates was basically the creator of the most-known version of Captain Atom and now he's working on the New 52 reinvention by J.T. Krul along with Greg Weisman.

And they do a decent job at the very least.

Both writers understand the character of Nate at its core, about he's a quite compassionate man who tries to do good which has always been an interesting contrast with his actual powers. The way how the rest of the cast is portrayed is also accurate enough, it seems like Bates really wanted to return to the classic interpretation of General Eiling instead of the New 52 one and is still a solid depiction, I have some problems with Dr. Megala though who looks much more different than how he appeared in the past.

The plot itself is not that complex since there's nothing particularly compelling about it but it offers interesting moments in terms of how Nate's powers are utilized.

Will Conrad's artwork is really detailed in terms of characters and settings and delivers really good effects.

Not a bad beginning but I hope to see more intriguing developments in the next one.
