Some thoughts about Cyborg: Rebirth #1

Is Cyborg truly who he believes he is?

Victor Stone is trying to save S.T.A.R. Labs from yet another monster but he will soon discover that there are bigger and more personal problems to deal with.

Well, this title is back and with a new writer who asks the question: Is Cyborg a man or a machine?

... Yeah, nothing has actually changed.

John Semper Jr. focuses this Rebirth issue on the overly-tiring premise about Victor's humanity which was already old and tiring when David Walker using it in the last volume. Mind you, Semper actually goes for a different route by exploring the concept of identity in a more complex manner which evokes aspects from Alan Moore's Swamp Thing which may prove to be more interesting.

The narration is decent enough. A bit overworked at times but not as heavy-handed and awkward as Walker's. There's also the classic set-up nature from Rebirth issues that mostly explore the origins of the characters and plants the seeds for the upcoming story. I think is fine in that regard.

Paul Pelletier handles the artwork and is quite good with beautiful and expressive characters and vibrant action scenes.

There's nothing particularly bad about this but the premise has been done to death at this point. It all depends on the execution obviously and I'm hoping for the better but I'm not that excited about it.
