Some thoughts about Transformers: More than Meets the Eye #56

Whatever happened to the Titans?

Fortress Maximus and Red Alert are exploring the remains of the gigantic Transformers just when they realize that Sentinel Prime is coming after them.

Titans Return tie-in and it works in some levels but in others not so much.

James Roberts offers a chapter where he focuses on two characters that he left for a while, Fortress Maximus and Red Alert and connects them to the current event and toyline. There are several mentions that tease the appearance of Headmasters as well as the appearance of classic characters from the line like Cerebros which makes you wonder who will become the actual Titan, Fortress Maximus or him? The way how Sentinel Prime is incorporated into the plot makes sense at the very least.

However, this is far from one of the best issues from this series. The plot itself is not that interesting probably because is a forced crossover but one would think that the story would be more engaging even with those limitations, Roberts certainly doesn't work that well when he has to follow an editorial mandate. The pacing can be a bit problematic due to how the story jumps from different settings without natural transitions. Finally and most importantly, the characterization for Prowl is underwhelming because Roberts continues to portray him as a complete unlikable egomaniac which is especially disappointing after the complex and understandable characterization that he received by Nick Roche in Sins of the Wreckers.

Priscilla Tramontano handles the artwork and... is not the best, not even one of her best works. Is okay in some scenes but the storytelling can be off and the overall style looks rough at some points.

Not really one of the best chapters from this series and is a shame if this is its last story.
